Justice Served: Company Ordered to Pay Dh110,400 for Delayed Job Start

In a historic decision, Abu Dhabi Labor Court (First Institute) has ordered an employee to pay a DH110,400 to an employee, which was hired – but never allowed to start work.

The claimant filed a case, demanding his unpaid salary from 11 November, 2024 to April 7, 2025, after signing a certain period of contract with a basic salary of DH7,200 and a total monthly package of DH24,000. Despite the agreement, the company repeatedly postponed its start date, leaving it without income for four months.

The court ruled in favor of the employee, confirming that the constructive obligations begin the moment when a valid contract is signed – even if the employer starts the duties of the job.

This decision sends a strong message: employment contracts are binding, and employers are accountable to the promises they do.
