UAE president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed AI Nahyan passed away at the age of 73 on Friday dated May 13, 2022. Since November 3, 2004, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed was ruling in Abu Dubai and served UAE as a president. Due to the death of the current president, the UAE announces 40 days of mourning with flags at half-mast and three days of closure of ministries. As Sheikh Khalifa was suffering a stroke in 2014, Prince Mohammed bin Zayed (popularly known as MBZ) was seen as the de facto ruler and stakeholder of major foreign policy decisions. UAE is going through a great loss due to the demise of the current president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

No cause of death was shared with the public. We came to know that the president of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa was considered one of the world’s richest monarchs. The United Arab Emirates was going through a sad stage due to the sudden demise of its virtuous son and leader of the ’empowerment phase’ and guardian of its blessed journey. Many leaders showed their condolences to the president’s family. His dead body was buried at AI Bateen cemetery in Abu Dubai.

As per the constitution, the current Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Abu Dubai, will act as a president until a new president is elected. The secretary of the United States conveyed his condolences over the death of Sheikh Khalifa and considered him a true friend of the United States. Sheikh Khalifa was elected as a president and came to power in 2004 in the richest emirate Abu Dubai and became the true ruler of the emirates. He was expected to succeed as ruler of Abu Dhabi by Prince Sheikh Mohammed.

He was born in 1948 and was the second president of the United Arab Emirates and the 16th ruler of the emirates of Abu Dhabi. Under his power, the United Arab Emirates has developed a lot that ensured decent living for the UAE citizens. Sheikh Khalifa was the eldest son of the late Sheikh Zayed.

After becoming the president of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa has presided over a major restructuring of the Federal Government and the Government of Abu Dhabi and launched his first strategic plan for the United Arab Emirates government to achieve balanced and sustainable development. President Sheikh Khalifa always wanted to continue on the path laid down by his father Sheikh Zayed and said that the legacy will continue to be the beacon guiding us into the future and promised to create a prosperous future where security and stability will reign.

Sheikh Khalifa also focused on the development of the oil and gas sector and the downstream industries which had contributed successfully to the country’s economic diversification. During his rule, the United Arab Emirates developed a lot and he always pays attention to the well being and security of its citizens. He also headed the largest investment fund in the world, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, managing hundreds of billions of dollars in assets. Sheikh Khalifa studied the needs of the Northern Emirates and gave instructions for building several projects related to housing, education and social services.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the current ruler of Abu Dhabi, performed the funeral prayer for the late president, Sheikh Khalifa, at the Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed, which is the first mosque in Abu Dhabi. The family members of the AI Nahyan also joined the funeral prayer and prayed to Allah Almighty to inspire everyone with patience and solace on the passing of the UAE leader. The funeral prayers for Sheikh Khalifa were held in several mosques across the country after maghrib. The citizens and residents of the United Arab Emirates came forward to pray for the UAE president, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
