Sharjah Man’s 32-Hour “Nap” Stuns Doctors, Nearly Slips into Coma

What began as a customary evening rest turned into a medical enigma when a 51-year-old resident of Sharjah, fell into an unusual, extended sleep lasting over 32 hours – a condition that doctors suggest could have become life-threatening.

“Every single day after work, Alex (name changed on request) enjoys coming home to his studio apartment. This time however, he felt demoralized. ‘I was completely drained. I told myself I would just rest my eyes.” He recounted. He also further added, “My clothes were still on, and I planned to get out of bed around eight-thirty in the evening. Figured that I’d just ‘nap’ for a couple of hours, then get up feeling rejuvenated.”

But, what happened next left both Alex and medical specialists in shock.

“He looked at the clock – 4:30 – even now something felt off. The next thing I remember, I woke up groggy and confused and guess what, it was the day after. Leave medical experts shocked.

Alex, doctors with him claimed, had drifted into a state of deep unresponsiveness, on the verge of a coma, possibly induced by a mix of severe fatigue, dehydration, and some underlying undiagnosed condition. The crucial piece of information here is that he did regain consciousness and avoided damage, experts do urge people to not ignore signs from the body.”

“It was a warning sign,” a doctor involved in the case shared. “If he hadn’t woken up when he did, he could have been in real trouble.”

Alex, who now is a subject of consideration and testing, wishes to change the narrative about extreme tiredness and fatigue. He hopes his experience will be viewed as a “wake-up call,” both figuratively and literally.
