Sanaa International Airport in Yemen’s rebel-held capital has temporarily halted all flights until further notice due to extensive damage caused by Israeli airstrikes on Tuesday. The airport’s director confirmed the closure of operations, citing the recent attacks as the cause of the damage.
The Israeli military carried out a series of airstrikes, targeting houthi-controlled infrastructure such as the airport, in response to a missile attack near Tel Aviv earlier this week. The strikes caused significant damage to the airport, including the destruction of the control tower, runway, and departure hall, as well as harm to multiple aircraft.
The suspension of flights has hindered humanitarian aid operations and the transportation of personnel, worsening the already critical situation in Yemen. The global community has voiced apprehension regarding the intensification of conflicts and its detrimental effects on civilian infrastructure.
Currently, there is no set date for when airports will start operating again. Officials are evaluating the impact of the incident and collaborating with international counterparts to expedite the restoration of essential services.
